How long should your customer wait to find out about you?

In a perfect world, they would never have to wait. Every phone call would be answered by a person and web sites would load instantly. But the world is not perfect. So, we have voice mail and web sites that do take time to load. Many companies spend time and resources trying to minimize the time that their customers have to wait before talking to the person who will help them. Their web sites should not keep them waiting any longer than necessary either.

You are probably not a customer of ours. But we would like you to be. So we do not want you to wait even one extra second before you have a chance to read our message. When we visit web sites, we will not wait - so why should you?

If you are interested in having a fast loading site that gets your point across and tells your visitors everything that you want them to know about you, then consider becoming one.

If you are interested in filling your web site with animations, then we would like a chance to change your mind.

We do not want you to have to wait for us to finish trying to impress you with unnecessary graphics and animations before you can find out if our site even offers what you are looking for.

And hopefully, you do not want your potential customers to have to wait either.

After eight seconds, at least one third of people surfing the web will become impatient and leave if the page has not loaded yet.

Can you honestly afford to lose a third of your prospects before you even have a chance to tell them about yourself?

If the idea of losing a one out of three visitors does not scare you, then consider the impact it would have on your business if they did not leave. Assuming that the same percentage of people who choose not to wait for your site to load would have become customers as those who did wait - keeping those visitors is a fifty percent increase in customers!
